Competition Training

Competition Training is offered at Heritage Riding to riders on both their own horse or utilising some of the many well educated School Master Horses that Heritage Riding offers.

Lessons are available with both Melanie Byrne, EFA Level 2 General, and British Horse Society Intermediate, and our visiting German Trainer Bereiter Marianne Lichtwark.

The three disciplines of Dressage, Showjumping and Eventing are taught by both Melanie and Marianne.

Training is available to in-house clientele who train with Melanie daily, so they are consistently supervised by a watchful eye from the ground.  Marianne Lichtwark travels monthly to Heritage Riding to train Heritage Riding Clients and also her own clientele.

Outside clients can also bring their horses to Melanie to be coached on a weekly basis.

Heritage Riding follows the German Training System, which Melanie has trained under Edgar and Marianne Lichtwark for 20 years.  This system has been followed in Germany and Europe by the “Old Masters” for many centuries.  The Training Scale of Education is taught from a young age to Squad Members, who then take it through their Competition Career having been given a “correct and solid” foundation.

This is as follows:

  • Looseness (Losgelassenheit)
  • Contact and acceptance of the bit
  • Impulsion
  • Straightness
  • Collection

Heritage Riding regularly assists their Competition Riders by preparing, travelling, and warming them up at Dressage and Jumping Events.
